Snow Parks Guide

We touched on a couple of good all-round resorts for off-piste and freestyle snow sports; now we give you the top four snow parks in the French Alps!

#1 Les Deux Alpes – Venosc & Mont-de-Lans

Down in the southern Alps is the picturesque resort of Les Deux Alpes, an all-year snow playground with its famous terrain parks and a spectacular glacier. It boasts a large array of jumps and rails with two half pipes and, snow permitting, a huge 80ft table top jump known to the locals as the Showtime Booter.

#2 Avoriaz Snowzone – Avoriaz

There are levels and terrain parks to suit any snowboarder or skier in Avoriaz from the easy bunny slopes and play area to the expert levels with trees, big cliffs, powder bowls, and easy wide flats. Head over to Ski Adventure, Chapelle snowpark, and the Freestyle Park for some thrills. At the Freestyle you will find the Superpipe, Arere Snowpark, the Stash, the Lil’Stash, the Burton Kids Parkway, and the Boarder-Cross. There is so much to do, you will need a month of Sundays for all this fun.

Avoriaz is lucky enough to host a Burton Stash. The Stash is a park concept that was created by Jake Burton and rider Craig Kelly. Their motto “the woods are the goods”, is about features or elements or jibs consisting of snow and wood – natural and basic.  At the Stash in Avoriaz there are lines, graded 1-3, to suit all levels of ability and with multiple hits from top to bottom.

#3 Val d’IsereValpark

Valpark in Val d’lsere is known as a haven to snowboarders (although I’m sure skiers also like to give it a good go too!).  The park hosts a large area of hips, jumps, a snowboarder crossing and a half pipe. This wide range allows for people of all skill levels and abilities to have fun and enjoy the park. Valpark has the very highest of ratings from the French Snowboarding Federation, and is well regarded as one of the top snowboarding parks around the world.

#4 Les Carroz – The Oasis Cool Zone

A dedicated 5 hectare area situated to the left of the Oasis draglift made up of:

  • Boardercross classified blue (specially for beginners and intermediates)
  • Terrain Park with over 30 features for all abilities (jumps, kicks, rails, boxes, kinks, tubes, bump ball, hanging ball etc...)
  • Free access parallel slalom course

The Oasis Cool Zone is equipped with a videozone linked to a giant screen at the finish in order to view your progress, along with a Wifi Hotspot enabling you to download your video and share on social networks.  One of the more technical parks in the Alps and new this year!
