Alps Mountain Biking in the News!
Sport England's Active People survey reported some interesting findings at the beginning of this year. Over two million adults in England now ride a bike at least once a week, and with last year’s successful Tour de France and London 2012, getting on your bike is becoming increasingly popular.
Cycling Tourism is also on the up with Holiday Inn Yorkshire reporting a 41% rise in bike-related reservations in the aftermath of the Tour de France, and golf is also seeing a decrease in popularity, as middle-aged men swap their clubs for two wheels.
Despite their increase in popularity, cycling holidays are very good value and can start from just £250 per week self-catering including flights. On a tailor-made holiday you can do as much or as little cycling as you like. Mountain biking is our speciality and we love nothing more than introducing people to the trails and bike parks of some of the worlds most renowned ski resorts in the French Alps!
The Guardian recently published a fantastic roundup of their Top 10 mountain bike rides in the Alps where many of our favourite resorts featured. They summarised Samoens, Grand Massif brilliantly:
“If you like the idea of huge descents through stunning Alpine backcountry, but would prefer to get there via ski lifts rather than days of slogging through the wilderness, then you won’t find a better place in the Alps than here.”

Our team work year-round on booking holidays in the French Alps; And the Grand Massif, particularly Les Carroz, is one of our most popular winter destinations. Samoens is very easily accessible by bike, and with 5 new pistes open, Les Carroz is definitely the place to stay for mountain bikers. VTTticime is also taking place the weekend of 18th July and the French Downhill championships the following weekend. Call the team on 02034 756 746 to discuss your requirements or search online.
Chamonix is a popular summer destination for mountain bikers, hikers and walkers. Trails are slightly more challenging to access and require some pedal power, but the views are worth it. If you’re planning on travelling in a mixed ability group or have some non-cyclists in your party, Chamonix is a beautiful place to relax for the week with lots of shops, bars and restaurants and other activities to try out including canyoning, rafting and much more. Self-catering apartments in Chamonix start at just £146 per person per week and a 6 day pass for mountain biking trails is €120.
Alpe d’Huez hosts something of a cult mountain biking event annually. The 2015 edition of Megavalanche took place last week and annually hosts 4000 riders from 20 countries competing across the challenging terrain. This resort is different to the bike parks and well-worn trails of other Alps destinations, be prepared to find your own natural line – more physical than picking up lifts from descent to descent. Our ski accommodation is available in August for mountain bikers from as little as £88 per person per week
